Half of the PhD students are women, but they rarely get cum laude

Research of the Dutch newspaper NRC showed that at all Dutch universities, men had more chance in recent years to get promoted with the distinction cum laude than women. The criteria for cum laude promotions are not defined objectively, so there is plenty of room for gender bias.
