International Day of Women & Girls in Science

11th February 2018 @ 13:30 - 18:00

This event is in Dutch.
The United Nations has proclaimed February 11 the International Day of Women & Girls in Science. Leiden University celebrates this day with an open public event with female top scientists from its Science Faculty. Everyone is welcome from 13:30 in the Cleveringazaal of the Kamerlingh Onnes building in Leiden.

Prof. dr. Ewine van Dishoeck – Spinoza prize winner, President Elect of the International Astronomical Union and recent winner of the James Craig Watson Medal – kicks off the day with a public lecture about the search for the building blocks for life in the universe. Then scientists from different backgrounds discuss in a talkshow about how research affects our society. This happens in many ways, for example through drug development or through improvement of catalysis for cleaner fuel. In between, a select group of secondary school students presents their excellently assessed profile papers.
