TODAY: March 8 – International Women’s Day

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day! At the Faculty of Science we honour the many achievements of our excellent women in Science.

International Women’s Day on March 8 is the kick off of a new year of events around the world to accelerate gender parity.

The theme of this year is Press4Progress and there are several opportunities today and the coming week to celebrate this important day.

Former Minister of Education, Culture and Science Jet Bussemaker will give the Annie Romein-Verschoor Lecture, entitled “De Nederlandse vrouw: bakfietsmuts of gelukkig deeltijdmens?

March 15 @ 9:00 – 10:30, De Stal:

RISE breakfast focused on the Gender Pay Gap and how to close it. At universities women receive on average a lower salary as compared to male colleagues of the same age with the same job level. Among professors this difference is a shocking 438 euro per month (see LNVH report). During the RISE breakfast we would like to discuss the possible underlying causes and more importantly how we can Press4Progress to close the pay gap.

Sophia (bring youw own) lunch meeting with lectures by Inge van der Weijden  and Thed van Leeuwen, senior researchers at CWTS. Inge van der Weijden will share her recent findings on the Gender aspects in career progression of postdocs who obtained a VENI grant. Thed van Leeuwen will talk about Analysis of gender distribution in Dutch oncology research.
