First female beadle at Leiden University

For the first time in the history of Leiden University, university ceremonies are accompanied by a woman. Last week Tineke Schutte made her debut as a beadle, which means that for the first time in 447 years this position is no longer reserved for a man. As a beadle, Schutte will now – together with her colleagues – supervise promotions, inauguration and other ceremonies.
