For Women in Science grants now open to female researchers in Life Sciences and STEM disciplines

The eleventh Call for Applications of the Dutch L’Oréal-Unesco For Women in Science fellowships opens on January 16th, 2023.

From 2023 onwards, not only female scientists in the Life Sciences can apply for a grant, but also researchers in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) disciplines can apply. The grants are intended for women in the phase of three to ten years after having obtained their PhD. Applications can be submitted until March 1st 2023.

The Dutch For Women in Science grants are intended for a research stay at the NIAS-KNAW in Amsterdam. During their stay they, researchers are exempt from regular work, including teaching, administrative and clinical duties for a whole semester. This gives them peace of mind and space for scientific deepening, such as writing scientific publications or grant applications. To support this, an inspiring workplace is offered in an interdisciplinary and international environment.

In the Netherlands, the division between male and female professors is less equal, compared to other countries in Europe. Only one out of four Dutch professors is a woman. By providing researchers with the space for scientific deepening, the For Women in Science programme aims to contribute to an increase of top level women scientists.
